Joya de Nicaragua Unveils Cuatro Cinco “Secret Cask”
Joya de Nicaragua is revisiting one of its most esteemed offerings with the introduction of the Cuatro Cinco “Secret Cask”, a highly limited edition that returns to the formula of the 2013 Cuatro Cinco Edición Limitada and leverages barrel-aged tobacco reserved specifically for this project.
Since the original release for the brand’s 45th anniversary, Joya de Nicaragua maintained a cache of tobaccos matured in oak whiskey-rum barrels—stored under strict temperature and humidity controls in what the company refers to as the “Secret Cask”. These leaves have now been blended into the new Secret Cask edition. Executive President Juan Ignacio Martínez observed that “time itself becomes an ingredient” when tobaccos are left to age in the secluded chamber reserved for this project.
Cuatro Cinco “Secret Cask” is built as a 6 × 54 box-pressed toro, composed entirely of Nicaraguan-grown wrapper, binder and filler tobaccos, following the presentation and core format of the original Edición Limitada. Production will be strictly limited to 1,500 ten-count boxes, with 700 allocated for the U.S. market and 800 for international distribution. Each box carries a suggested retail price of $189.50 (or $18.95 per cigar). In a unique addition, each box includes a mini-casket containing filler tobaccos that demonstrate the barrel-aging process behind the release. Shipping is scheduled to begin in early November 2025.
For retailers, this edition offers an especially collectible opportunity: heritage blend, scarce inventory, and a narrative of aging and craftsmanship tied to the brand’s flagship “Obras Maestras” line. Proper allocation and marketing of the “Secret Cask” can serve premium retailers well during the late-year release window.
