Angel Cuesta Shade Named No. 5 Cigar of 2025 by halfwheel

Handcrafted in J.C. Newman’s El Reloj Factory in Tampa, Florida
— J.C. Newman Cigar Co.

We are proud to share that J.C. Newman’s Angel Cuesta Shade Toro was named the No. 5 Cigar of 2025 by halfwheel.  First rolled a century ago, this historic cigar brand is named for Angel LaMadrid Cuesta, one of the founders of Cuesta-Rey.  Angel Cuesta was the official cigar of King Alfonso XIII who ruled Spain from 1886 to 1931.  Angel Cuesta Shade is a companion to the award-winning Angel Cuesta Rosado, which J.C. Newman first released three years ago.

Angel Cuesta Shade cigars are handmade in The American Room at J.C. Newman’s iconic El Reloj cigar factory in the Cigar City of Tampa, Florida.  They feature a beautiful, silky smooth Nicaraguan Shade wrapper with a blend of aged binder and filler tobaccos from three continents and a pigtail cap.  A team of two rollers with decades of experience roll a total of 150 Angel Cuesta Shade cigars per day.  Because of this, Angel Cuesta cigars are very limited.

J.C. Newman will release Angel Cuesta Shade cigars next month as part of the America250 cigar collection, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.
